Do you realize that most times when we’re at our lowest points and we’re at our total wits end that we turn to God for help?? It’s just that sometimes we have been so complacent with our lives and we just go along with it and don’t realize that we have lost touch with God until something is thrust our way and turns our life inside out! That’s when we turn back to God for answers and with His master touch, He makes all things beautiful. Trust in Him, believe that He knows what’s best for you and be open to the changes and you will achieve great things that you didn’t think was possible.
Charles was a straight A student all through out his school life. His parents were very proud of him and thought that his future was definitely bright and secured. He continued on with his studies in the United Kingdom after high school and continued to excel. He was accepted to study mechanical engineering at the prestigious Imperial College in London and did exceedingly well in his first year. However, by the time he reached his 2nd year, he found out that he had more interest in being an entrepreneur. It started off with selling Sony Playstation and then continued with mobile phones and finally selling Video CDs online which were really popular in the 90s.
Though he knew he had lost interest in his studies then, he continued to push himself to work hard so that he will not disappoint his parents. However, God seems to have other plans for him. For the first time ever, Charles failed 2 out of the 4 subjects that he took that year. He could not believe it. Though his parents were really disappointed, they encouraged him to give it another go. Not wanting to disappoint them further, he retook his 2nd year. His Video CDs business started to flourish and he was definitely making more than any average 20 year old was making at that time. And this time when it was results time, he knew that he had failed miserably, 3 out of 4 this time!
His parents were shocked! And it shocked them even more when he announced that he was not going to continue with his studies anymore. He decided to go into business full time. They thought that he had lost it. He asked for 1 year trial period and if things did not work out, he would go back to his studies. But Charles knew that he was doing the right thing – he followed his heart. He knew the saying “When you’re down to nothing, God is up to something!” He did not limit himself but was open to the changes that was taking place. God continued to bless his business and when the Video CDs sales started to dwindle, God placed another business idea in him.
This time, he started up an internet company creating ecommerce software so that people all around the world can just come and sign up for a store and start building one of their own for a very small sum. When he started this business he had very little knowledge in coding and was literally just a beginner and yet he came up with something pretty impressive. When the software was all done and ready to be launched, United States was hit with the 9-11 incident! It couldn’t have been a worse time for a start up as the primary market was the United States. Charles did not fret but continued to follow his dream for he knows his source and no matter what economic condition the world is in, he believes in a source that provides abundantly. Plus he works best when he’s being pushed to the limits. And God truly doesn’t disappoint. Through this business, he managed to buy himself a very comfortable home for his family, luxurious cars and countless family holidays.Today Charles heads his company of 11 employees and God has made him the head over all these other people who’s more qualified than him (paper wise!).
And just who is this Charles person? He’s my darling husband and that is why I know in such great depth his life story to date. I am blessed to have the opportunity of working with him in this business since 2001. When I made my decision to work with him, I had many friends who discouraged me, putting me down with words such as “You sure you want to put all your eggs in one basket? What if you guys don’t work out?” Of course, we were only dating back then. But I knew in my heart that this was the man for me and that I will support him in anyway that I can. I still went ahead to work with him with my mother’s blessings. Back then it was just me, him and another employee who did the designing work for us. Somehow God just made everything worked out for us. Doors started to open and the more we placed our faith in Him, the more He continued to bless us.
And the myth about husbands and wives should not be working together is all together NOT TRUE! I enjoyed every moment working with my husband. We share our dreams, we had our disagreements and our shouting matches (once in a long while!) but we always believed in the power of 2!
Again, I tell you that if two of you on earth agree about anything you ask for, it will be done for you by my Father in heaven – Matthew 18:19
But the amazing thing is that if he did not fail his exams and chose to stayed back in Penang, we would not have met and start up our beautiful family. Isn’t God amazing? Don’t be limited by our natural ability. Expand your horizons, step out of your comfort zones and reach for higher goals! Know that we serve super natural God and when He’s at work, super natural things takes place. God has a plan for each and everyone of us – it doesn’t matter if you didn’t do well in school, it doesn’t matter if you can’t speak well – none of it matters when the Master is at work. Each one of us is special in each of our own way because God has us engraved on the palms of His hand. It reminds me of a song my daughter sings to me all the time “Mummy is special, special – everyone is special!” I always laugh when I hear that because it means so much to me just to hear that precious voice singing to me.
